COLD DAY IN THE OZARKS

There is something very beautiful about a tree covered in ice and the icicles hanging from the edge of the roof.

But it has been hard to enjoy the beauty here today. It’s been a noisy day – first you hear a cracking sound, then the sound of a rock solid object hitting the ground or, I think, my roof.  This has gone on all day long and is still happening.

Many more have fallen since I took these photos mid-afternoon.  I took these through the glass doors as my electricity had just gone off and I certainly didn’t want to open the door and let the 15 degree air inside.

As I was thinking what I would do if the electricity remained off a long time [finding a nice, warm motel room would require clearing the limbs off my ice covered driveway first], I thought about growing up in a house where the bedrooms weren’t heated. We just piled on more blankets and quilts, wore socks to bed, covered our heads with the covers and were soon toasty warm.  My current house is much better insulated than the old farm house.

I found myself wondering how many people are out in this weather with no protection from the harshness of the cold and the continuing rain and sleet.

We who are blessed with a roof over our heads and a peanut butter sandwich to eat should give thanks – and do something to help those less fortunate.

SUMMER: YOU’RE LEAVING SO SOON!

Even with the triple digit temps we had for awhile, it still seems like summer was all too short. Our low last night was in the 50s.

This morning my house is cool enough that I would really enjoy turning the heat on for a few minutes. Instead, I put on pants and a fleece jacket to keep my arthritic body more comfortable and less stiff.

I’m looking forward to the beautiful fall colors, but not the winter cold.

GOODBYE, IKE! IT HAS NOT BEEN FUN.

I didn’t know a hurricane/storm could travel so far.

After the devastation that Ike caused in LA, TX and other southern states, “he” decided to cut back across the US to the NE. Last night was our turn for a visit. The winds were strong, the rain heavy, but it appears the damage is only a few limbs down in the neighborhood.

Our electricity is back on after being off for about 10 hours. I didn’t want to open my refrigerator since we’d just bought groceries, so went and got a fast food breakfast. The temperatures dropped enough that we didn’t miss the air-conditioner.

Keep praying for those who were in the main path of the storm. Their losses and needs are major!

A Beautiful Day…..

Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day and I really felt like myself again.

We’ve had a lot of rain, but enough sunshine to make the grass, trees and plants grow beautifully. In fact, my lawn is getting rather tall. Hope my lawn guy gets it done before the weekend rains that are predicted. I have appointments three different days next week, so hope the rain predictions are wrong.

So sad about the Boy Scouts caught in the tornado in Iowa. I’m sure those families can all use our prayers. The weather has been really crazy this year.
